L.Schrum Furniture

NAVIGATE:
Libby Schrum is a Maine-based furniture designer and maker
passionate about designing objects with a simple presence that
develop a resonance with their environments and the other pieces with
which they share space in a room. Paying great attention to detail, her
work features unique design solutions, clean lines and smooth surfaces.
She designs and creates well-articulated furniture, as comfortable in
modern dwellings as it is in traditional structures.

Beginning each piece with a thorough design process,
Libby develops the idea through a series of sketches, models,
and working drawings. Thoughtful selection of lumber follows, using
domestic species of hardwoods, such as cherry, maple, and walnut.
The design is then executed with an appropriate balance between
traditional hand tool methods and machine room technologies.
Drawing from the simplicity and directness of the modern aesthetic,
the elegance and balance of Asian design, and the ideals of the
craftsman movement, her work is designed to ultimately
be both functional and visually pleasing.

Originally from Texas, Libby received instruction in furniture design
and construction at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in
Rockport, Maine. Following her time at the Center she enrolled
at the Rhode Island School of Design, earning a
Masters of Fine Arts in Furniture Design.
